Guide for the procedure to marinise NRE type machinery and equivalent engines like truck engines (EURO VI) and checking the eligibility for installation of these engines into inland navigation vessels
CESNI has produced a guide aiming to clarify the administrative procedure for the recognition and installation of marinised engines (NRE and Euro VI) in inland navigation vessels within the framework of Regulation (EU) 2016/1628 and the ES-TRIN.
Guide to possible derogations from technical requirements of the ES-TRIN for traditional craft
To ease the implementation of ES-TRIN to traditional craft, CESNI has developed a guide to possible derogations from technical requirements.

Leaflet on deliberation on derogations and equivalences of technical requirements of the ES-TRIN for specific craft
The CESNI Secretariat is regularly requested by the public for information on the procedure for derogations and equivalences from technical requirements. In order to ensure transparent and comprehensive information, considering both EU and CCNR legal frameworks, the CESNI decided to publish a leaflet on its website. The procedure described allows to gain experience with pilot projects (e.g. alternative fuels) and actively supports innovation and greening of the fleet.
Track Guidance Assistant for Inland Navigation (TGAIN) – Aspects of Safe Use
Drafted by the CESNI in cooperation with EDINNA, the brochure contains important information for the safe use of TGAIN (Track Guidance Assistant for Inland Navigation). It is primarily intended for training institutes and manufacturers. It is relevant to inland navigation:
In concrete terms, the brochure contains a six-point programme setting out the competences acquired TGAIN operators should have.
Guidelines on the installation of the inland automatic identification system – Inland AIS Station
The guidelines are meant to recall requirements set out in ES-TRIN and ES-RIS but also to supplement these requirements with good practices for the installation companies.
Good practice guide
Cybersecurity in inland navigation
Especially for ports
The good practice guide is intended to provide an overview of cybersecurity risks, threats, and mitigation measures, primarily within the scope of inland navigation ports. The main objectives are for port stakeholders to understand the motivations and actors behind cyber-attacks, as well as the assets of ports to be considered when evaluating cybersecurity threats and risks. This guide also gives an overview of good practices for the implementation of cybersecurity risk mitigation measures.
This good practice guide was developed in partnership with the European Federation of Inland Ports (EFIP) and aims to be an accessible framework for all inland ports, regardless of their size or location in Europe.
Guidelines on personal data transmitted in the context of RIS
These guidelines are intended, on the one hand, to propose a definition of personal data in the context of RIS and, on the other hand, to list the purposes for which this data may be processed.
These guidelines are not intended to replace the applicable regulations but may assist in establishing a common vision which will allow the harmonised implementation of RIS at a European level.
